Most people have heard “Diamonds’ Four Cs” Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut – which coalesce to determine a “Fifth C,” Diamond Cost.
Each of these Four Cs is essential in determining. The value of any diamond. In fact, no one C supersedes any other, from the industry’s point of view. Value is ascertained by the relationships among these four standards.
Some individual customers may be more passionate about Color than Clarity. Others may view their favorite Cut as their most important consideration. Purchase decisions are completely a matter of personal priorities and taste. If you love the diamond, and if it answers your other priorities, it’s the right diamond for you to buy.
But those professionals who evaluate (“grade”) individual diamonds are required to assess each of the “Cs” against well-defined standards, agreed-upon by the professional diamond industry. Those standards are used to determine a diamond’s value.
